Maryland Drops OT Game to Drexel

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Redshirt senior Rachel Egyed posted a career-high nine saves, but a late overtime goal from Dragons made the difference as Maryland fell 1-0 Sunday afternoon. The Terps move to 2-3-1 on the season with the result.

After a scoreless regulation, Maryland headed to overtime for the second time in three games after previously playing Navy to a 0-0 tie on August 26. Drexel's Mordan Rees finished the game-winner, taking a cross from Shaelyn McCarthy from the right wing to score into an open net.

Egyed stopped everything that came her way in regulation, including six shots in the second half. Her biggest save came in the 84th minute, after a Drexel offensive player got an open look inside the box. The Clifton, N.J. native dove to her right side to deflect the ball away and keep the Terps alive in the final minutes of the period.

Maryland managed 10 shots on the day, but scoring chances were limited. Jarena Harmon had one of the better looks for the Terps in the 14th minute, but her one-on-one shot with the goalkeeper was deflected wide to keep the game scoreless.

Maryland will try to bounce back Thursday, September 6 when the team returns home to face UCF at Ludwig Field at 7:00 pm.
