BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Heavyweight
Youssif Hemida posted an 8-3 decision victory, but the Maryland wrestling team (0-5, 0-2 B1G), fell to Indiana (4-7, 1-3 B1G), 36-3, on Sunday.
Hemida's win was his second of the weekend, previously winning by decision at No. 23 Purdue. He is now 2-0 in dual action after earning a silver medal at the U23 World Championships in November.
The senior wasted no time in his bout against Fletcher Miller, securing a takedown in the opening minute of the bout. After Miller escaped, Hemida quickly took him back down to the mat for a second takedown and another two points. Leading 4-2 entering the second period, Hemida was able to extend his lead with less than 15 seconds left in the frame. The New York native then controlled the final two minutes of the contest, securing the 8-3 victory.
The Terrapins lost four matches by way of decision, including bouts at 125, 149, 165 and 197.
Maryland will be back in action on Friday, taking on B1G foe Nebraska at the XFINITY Center Pavilion. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
