By The Numbers: Maryland Volleyball 2018

In head coach Adam Hughes' first season at the helm, the Maryland volleyball team impressed, posting an 18-14 record with the program's best ever Big Ten record at 9-11. Let's take a look back on the 2018 campaign with some of the most notable numbers and notes...
1
Sophomore outside hitter Erika Pritchard became the first Maryland player to ever earn First Team All-Big Ten accolades this past season, after standing in sole possession of the Big Ten kills lead at 4.32/set and 14th nationally in both kills and points (552.5), which stood as the second-best mark in the Big Ten. Pritchard also became the first Maryland player to earn AVCA All-North Region accolades since 2012 and the 15th in program history.
2
Pritchard tallied the second most kills ever in a single season by a Terp with 493, trailing only Lynnsy Jones' 522 in 2002.
3
Maryland swept three Big Ten opponents (Rutgers, Ohio State & Iowa), the most teams the Terps have beaten twice in a season since Maryland joined the Big Ten.
4
Four freshmen saw major playing time on this year's team. Middle blocker Rainelle Jones started in all 32 matches and stood fourth on the team with 169 kills, second with 108 blocks and first in solo blocks with 16. Libero Allegra Rivas was the team's sole libero, starting in all 32 matches and led all Big Ten freshman at 4.58 digs per set. Outside hitter Emma Schriner came into a starting role entering Big Ten play and totaled 102 kills, 53 blocks and 19 digs. Middle blocker Katie Myers played as a redshirt freshman and led Maryland in aces and blocks.
5
Freshman Allegra Rivas totaled 522 digs on the season, which stands as the fifth most ever by a Terrapin and the most ever by a freshman. Rivas had seven matches of over 20 digs on the season and 32 at Princeton on 9/15, the most by a Terp in over five years, since Sarah Harper had 34 against UMKC on September 6, 2013.
9
In addition to the nine Big Ten wins, Maryland also won nine road matches this season, good for the second most in the conference and the program's most in a season since 2005.
14
Maryland won 14 matches in straight sets this season (six in the Big Ten), marking the most for the program in one season since 1997. The Terps were 14-6 in three set matches.
15
On November 7, the Terps defeated #15 Michigan in Ann Arbor in straight sets, marking Maryland's first ever road win against a ranked opponent.
18
With 18 wins in year one of his coaching tenure, Adam Hughes notched the most wins ever by a first year Maryland volleyball head coach.

In Maryland's upset win at #15 Michigan, freshman Allegra Rivas led the Maryland defense that held the Wolverines to a .066 hitting percentage, tallying 24 digs (eight per set). The 24 digs are the most by a freshman in a three-set Big Ten match since Illinois' Brandi Donnelly had 25 on October 1, 2014 as well as the most ever by a Maryland player in a three-set Big Ten match.
31
In Maryland's November 23rd five set win at Iowa, sophomore Erika Prtichard, tallied 31 kills, marking the most kills by any Terp in a match since at least 2010 and the second most kills in a match by any Big Ten player this year.
