COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland women's basketball team is teaming up with Sealston Elementary School this season in the Big Ten Reading Challenge, a conference competition that has each Big Ten women's basketball program paired up with a local elementary school to promote reading skills while teaching the values of teamwork and grit.
As part of Maryland's partnership with Sealston, each week for the 12 week Big Ten Reading Challenge season, a different member of the Terrapin team sends a message to the students to motivate them to read. Maryland and Sealston are matched up against a different Big Ten school each week, where the teams build up a score. In Week One, Maryland/Sealston defeated Rutgers/South Amboy (NJ), 52-37.
