Kaila Charles of the ninth-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (14-1, 3-1 B1G) was name to the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List Wednesday evening on ESPNU.

Chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts based on their performances during the first half of the 2018-19 season, the list comprises of 25 student-athletes who are front-runners for the sport's most prestigious honor.

Charles is leading the Big Ten's top scoring team with 16.9 points per game, which is good for fifth in the conference. She is also averaging 6.3 boards per game. Charles is shooting 49 percent from the floor and over 81 percent from the free throw line.

Charles has led the Terrapins in scoring in seven of 15 games so far this year. She has scored in double figures in 44 of 49 games over the last two seasons. Charles became the 33
rd Terrapin to reach the 1,000-career points mark earlier this season. She is currently 28
th on Maryland's all-time scoring list with 1,203 career points.

The Terrapins won at Nebraska, 81-63, Wednesday night for head coach
Brenda Frese's 500
th career victory. Charles led the way for Maryland with 19 points.

With the win, Frese's career coaching record is 500-150 (.769) over 20 years, 17 of them at Maryland. Frese has led the Terrapins to 14 NCAA Tournaments in her 16 post seasons, three Final Fours, six Elite Eights, eight Sweet Sixteens and nine conference titles.

Next, Maryland will return home to host Michigan (10-5, 1-2) Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at the XFINITY Center.
