COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Redshirt sophomore forward Alyssa Poarch has been named a Second Team All-Big Ten selection as announced by the conference offices today.
Poarch earns the honor after a breakout 2019 season, where she led the Terps in points (19) and goals (8) while starting in all 19 games for Maryland.
Her second team All-B1G plaudits are the highest-ever selection for the Terrapin, joining two-time third team selection Rachel Egyed as the second-ever All-B1G honoree in program history.
The Middletown, Del. native finished sixth in the conference in points (19) and sixth in goals (8), helping lead Maryland to a 9-7-3 record and the school's first-ever appearance in the Big Ten Tournament. Poarch and the Terps went 5-5-1 in league play to finish sixth in the conference, the best-ever for a Maryland team.
Poarch tallied two multi-goal games in the regular season, including a two-score effort in a 6-2 rout of Illinois on October 6 – the most goals ever scored by UMD against a Big Ten foe.
She also delivered a goal and an assist in Maryland's 2-1 upset win over No. 20 Rutgers on September 22, for which she was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week.
Maryland will makes its inaugural appearance in the Big Ten tourney Sunday when the Terps head to No. 20 Michigan for a rematch against the Wolverines. Kickoff in Ann Arbor is slated for 1:00 pm.
