#22 Terps Host #8 Indiana in Big Ten Semifinals at Ludwig Field

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The fifth-seeded Maryland men's soccer team takes on top-seeded Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals Friday night at 7 p.m., at Ludwig Field. The match will be streamed live on Fox Sports Go and the Fox Sports App with Dean Linke and Maryland Athletics Hall of Famer Jason Garey calling the action.

  • Prior to the Maryland/Indiana semifinal, Second-seeded Penn State will face off with third-seeded Michigan at 4 p.m. Tickets are good for both matches. 
  • Fans attending Friday's first semifinal should seek pay parking at the Stadium Drive Garage if they wish to arrive before 4 p.m. Permit lots surrounding Ludwig Field are closed to the public until 4 p.m., on weekdays. Parking will be open after 4 p.m., for fans of the second semifinal and will be open to the public for the final on Sunday afternoon. University parking maps can be found here. 

Storylines
  • Maryland is serving as the host to the Big Ten Tournament semfinals and final for the second time. The Terps hosted in 2014 and captured the tournament championship with a 2-1 win over Indiana in the final. Mael Corboz and Zack Steffen earned tournament Offensive and Defensive Most Valuable Player honors, respectively. 
  • Maryland is looking to win its first Big Ten Tournament title since 2016, when the Terps defeated Wisconsin in the final. Maryland's tournament results since joining the league: 2018 (semifinals), 2017 (quarterfinals), 2016 (champions), 2015 (champions), 2014 (champions). 
  • The all-time series between Indiana and Maryland is tied at 4-4-7. The Terps defeated the Hoosiers in their earlier meeting this season, 3-0. The teams faced off three times last season, including in the Big Ten semifinals. The Hoosiers won a penalty kick shootout after a 1-1 draw to advance. The Terps then avenged that result with a 2-0 win in the national semifinals. 
  • Maryland and Indiana have won 8-of-11 avaliable Big Ten trophies since the Terps entered the conference in the 2014 season. As of July, the two programs combined to have 30 players on MLS rosters (Maryland 17, Indiana 13).
  • Senior Eli Crognale is finishing off his final season in style as Maryland's captain has either an goal or assist in six consecutive matches. Crognale has a goal in his last three matches. Crognale, a first-team All-Big Ten selection, has four goals and five assists this season. 
  • Sasho Cirovski, one of the most decorated coaches in college soccer history, is now four wins away from 400 at Maryland. Cirovski currently has 422 wins all-time, the sixth-most among active coaches. With 400 wins at Maryland, Cirovski would be one of just six coaches in history with 400 wins at one Division I school. 
B1G Things Poppin'
  • Senior midfielder Eli Crognale and senior center back Johannes Bergmann were named to the All-Big Ten First Team. Bergmann, a unanimous selection, has helped the Terps to 10 clean sheets and has also added two goals and two assists this season. Crognale has four goals and five assists this season. Both players are captains. 
  • Junior forward Eric Matzelevich and freshman goalkeeper Niklas Neumann were named to the All-Big Ten Second Team. Matzelevich leads the Terps with five goals while Neumann has notched nine clean sheets this season. 
  • Maryland has new players selected to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team, midfielders Malcolm Johnston and Nick Richardson. Johnston has three goals and four assists this season while Richardson has emerged as one of the best defensive midfielders in the country.
Bin Wins N4A Wilma Rudolph Award
  • Paul Bin accepted the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals' (N4A) Wilma Rudolph Student-Athlete Achievement Award in June at the N4A Convention Awards Luncheon. The N4A Wilma Rudolph Student-Athlete Achievement Award honors student-athletes who have overcome great personal, academic, and/or emotional odds to achieve academic success while participating in intercollegiate athletics.
  • Bin served as an inspiration inside and outside of the University of Maryland community for his battle with mental health and his subsequent advocacy for mental health awareness in sports. The junior forward played a large role on the field in the Terps capturing their fourth national title in program history in 2018, scoring four goals and adding three assists in 21 matches.
  • Joining Bin at the ceremony were his fellow 2019 honorees: Madeline Banic (Tennessee), Noelle Lambert (UMass-Lowell), Maggie Nichols (Oklahoma) and Levi Prater (Oklahoma).
