COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Redshirt sophomore forward Alyssa Poarch has earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region team, announced by the national coaching organization announced Monday.
Poarch has been named a Third Team selection, adding to an impressive 2019 campaign in which she was also named a Second Team All-Big Ten choice. She is the first Terrapin to garner All-Region honors since 2012, when Olivia Wagner, Becky Kaplan and Hayley Brock were tabbed All-Region honorees. Â Â Â
Poarch earns the honor after a breakout 2019 season, where she led the Terps in points (19) and goals (8) while starting in all 19 games for Maryland.
The Middletown, Del. native finished sixth in the conference in points (19) and sixth in goals (8), helping lead Maryland to a 9-7-3 record and the school's first-ever appearance in the Big Ten Tournament. Poarch and the Terps went 5-5-1 in league play to finish sixth in the conference, the best-ever for a Maryland team.
Poarch tallied two multi-goal games in the regular season, including a two-score effort in a 6-2 rout of Illinois on October 6 – the most goals ever scored by UMD against a Big Ten foe.
She also delivered a goal and an assist in Maryland's 2-1 upset win over No. 20 Rutgers on September 22, for which she was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week.
