MINNEAPOLIS -- Philip Spadafora and ninth-ranked
Youssif Hemida each dropped tight decision matches as the Maryland wrestling team fell to No. 7 Minnesota, 45-0, on Sunday.
Spadafora fought well against the Gophers' Carson Brolsma, but Minnesota's 165-pounder was able to secure a takedown in the final 30 seconds to put himself past Spadafora.
Hemida matched up with undefeated and top-ranked heavyweight Gable Steveson. Minnesota's freshman got on the board first, taking Hemida down late in the first period. Hemida escaped, cutting the deficit in half entering the second.
Maryland's returning All-American was able to tie the score later on, but Steveson tallied a pair of takedowns to distance himself for Hemida, who suffered just his third loss of the season.
Maryland will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 15, hosting fourth-ranked Michigan at the XFINITY Center Pavilion.
