NEW YORK -- Senior
Millie Stretton tallied her team-best fourth singles win, but the Maryland women's tennis team fell to 38th-ranked Columbia, 6-1, on Saturday.
Stretton earned a 6-4, 6-2, win at second singles over Columbia's Akansha Bhan, to put a point on the board for the Terrapins. She was also playing well in doubles play, leading 5-3 with partner
Eva Alexandrova at first doubles when their match went unfinished due to Columbia clinching the doubles point.
Maryland nearly forced a decisive third set in two singles matches, losing tiebreakers at first and sixth singles. Alexandrova fell, 7-5, in her tiebreak at the top singles spot, while redshirt sophomore
Amber Policare dropped her breaker, 7-4.
The Terrapins will be back in action on Friday, Mar. 1, hosting William & Mary at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park. Opening serve is set for 3 p.m.
