Hartshorn Added To Tewaaraton Watch List

NEW YORK, NY -- Junior Kali Hartshorn was added to the Tewaaraton Watch List, joining six other Terps on the watch list for the nation's most prestigious award, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced on Thursday.

Through eight games this season, Hartshorn is second on the team with 20 goals and tied for second with 23 points. Hartshorn is also Maryland's leader in the draw circle, standing second in the Big Ten with 40 draw controls, at five per game. Hartshorn has came through in some of the biggest moments for Maryland this season, scoring the game winner in overtime against No. 4 Syracuse and the game-tying goal with a minute left to send the game for overtime where the Terps would eventually win against No. 3 North Carolina.

Hartshorn won Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors a few weeks back after Maryland's win at No. 6 Florida after scoring four goals and leading a dominant performance in the circle with nine draw controls.

The junior attacker joins graduate midfielder Erica Evans, four seniors: Julia BraigJen GilesCaroline Steele and Megan Taylor and junior defender Lizzie Colson on the watch list. Maryland's seven players are the most of any program on the list, both men and women.

Maryland has won seven of the last nine Tewaaraton awards, with Zoe Stuckenberg last taking home the presitgious award in 2017. Before that, Taylor Cummings won three straight from 2014-16 and Katie Schwarzmann became the first two-time winner for Maryland in 2012-13. Caitlyn McFadden started the seven-for-eight streak for Maryland, garnering the award in 2010. Jen Adams won the inaugural Tewaaraton in 2001. Last season, attacker Megan Whittle was one of five finalists for the award.

Another round of additions for the Tewaaraton Watch List will be announced on April 4. On April 25, the field will be narrowed to 25 men's and 25 women's nominees. Nominees can be players on the watch lists or players not on the watch lists, effectively allowing for a third round of additions.

Five men's and five women's finalists will be announced on May 9 and invited to the ceremony. The 18th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held in Washington, D.C., on May 30.
