PHILADELPHIA – The Maryland gymnastics team earned a season-best score of 195.975, with wins over Temple (194.850), West Chester (191.425) and S. Connecticut St. (191.325).
Two Terps earned career highs, four additional Terps earned season highs and the team earned a season best vault score of 49.000.
"I'm really proud of them," said head coach
Brett Nelligan. "I thought they did an incredible job and were able to come out on fire after a quick turnaround."
Maryland swept the awards placing first in all four events, the all-around and final team-score category. The surge was led by sophomore sensation
Audrey Barber who ran away in the all-around competition earning her second straight 39.400 this season.
The Terps started the meet on bars where junior
Tiara Wright posted Maryland's highest score of the meet, a near perfect 9.900 to match her career best and earn a new season best.
"Tiara's bars were unbelievable," said Nelligan. "She's hit it like that a few times in practice but I've been waiting for her to do it that clean in a meet and tonight she did it, it was a huge moment for the whole team."
Wright was followed by Barber (9.850), Peterman (9.800) and sophomore
Emilie LeBlanc. The GymTerps posted a team score of 49.050 in the event.
Next Maryland took to beam where Barber led the Terrapins with a 9.875, matching her career best. Senior
Shynelle Agaran earned her season-best 9.825 on the event. The Terps finished beam with a 48.800.
Next came floor where the Terrapins for the second straight week were brilliant. Sophomore
Sabriyya Rouse earned a career best 9.875 in the event with her vibrant routine followed by senior
Megan McClelland (9.775) and junior
Kirsten Peterman (9.800) who both earned season-bests. Barber posted another impressive 9.850 in the event and senior anchor
Alex Robinson closed off the rotation with a 9.825 to hoist the Terrapins to a team score of 49.125, their second-best score of the season.
The Terrapins ended the meet on vault where freshman anchor
Alexsis Rubio posted a career high 9.850 nailing her yurchenko full and drawing loud cheers from teammates and coaches. Barber and junior
Alecia Farina also contributed to the season best vault score (49.000) with 9.825s respectively.
This is Maryland's highest score of the season and fourth 195 this season.
"This team is absolutely ready for senior night, they want to come together and put up another great meet for the seniors to send them out the right way," said Nelligan.
Maryland will host Brown, S. Connecticut State and Penn on Sunday at noon where the GymTerps will honor their four seniors.
