COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Head coach Ray Leone has announced assistant coach Manya Puppione will become the new head women's soccer coach at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia.
"I am ecstatic for Manya," said head coach Ray Leone. "I'm proud that she will have this opportunity and I know she will do an excellent job leading her own program. She's made a lasting impact on our team during her time at Maryland and we'll be forever grateful for her contributions to our program. I appreciate everything she's done for the University of Maryland, and wish her the best of luck on this new chapter of her life."
Puppione spent three seasons at Maryland, helping Leone rebuild the program after he was hired as the program's head coach in 2016.
Maryland made significant strides in conference play in 2018. The Terps more than doubled their B1G scoring output with 10 goals in conference action and cut their goals against by a third in one year, a seven-goal decrease from a season ago. Maryland improved by four wins in 2017 and went through nonconference play undefeated.
Puppione helped the Terps notch a four-win improvement over 2016, including an unbeaten record in nonconference play. Her efforts also helped the Terps bring in a top-25 recruiting class in 2017.
