#2 Maryland Closes Out Road Slate at #24 Georgetown

COLLEGE PARK, Md. --  The second-ranked Maryland women's lacrosse team will play its final regular season road game of the season on Wednesday evening at #24 Georgetown. Maryland will play its second game of the season on FS1, a 7:00 p.m. opening draw. Scott Sudikoff and Rich Donovan will have the call. 

HOW WE GOT HERE
• The No. 2 Maryland women's lacrosse team (15-0, 5-0 B1G) fought back and battled the weather and a midgame venue change to defeat No. 5 Northwestern 17-13 last Thursday and clinch at least a share of the Big Ten Regular Season title for the fifth year in a row.
• The senior duo of Jen Giles (four goals, one assist) and Megan Taylor (10 saves) led the way as the No. 2 Maryland women's lacrosse team (14-0, 4-0 B1G) cruised to a 14-3 win over No. 7 Michigan (13-1, 3-1 B1G) in a battle of unbeaten teams last Saturday evening.
• Head coach Cathy Reese became the all-time winningest women's lacrosse coach at the University of Maryland as the No. 2 Terps (13-0) handled No. 8 Virginia, 16-6 last Wednesday night.

MEET THE TERPS
• The Terps are led by the midfield corps of senior Jen Giles, transfer Erica Evans and sophomore Grace Griffin. Giles leads the Terps with 42 goals, 17 assists, 59 points and is second with 25 groundballs. Evans and Griffin are third and sixth on the team with 40 and 35 points apiece. Evans has 31 goals and nine assists while Griffin has 28 goals, seven assists and leads the team with 12 caused turnovers. 
• Maryland is once again backlined by junior  Megan Taylor, who has had an incredible start to 2019, leading the country with a .598 save percentage at 143 saves to 86 goals allowed. Taylor was named the B1G Defensive Player of the Week in each of the past six weeks and earned three IWLCA National Player of the Week honors.
• The attack is spearheaded by junior Kali Hartshorn and senior Caroline Steele. Hartshorn is second on the team in both points (46) and goals (34) and leads the team with 94 draw controls. Steele is coming off a five goal, six point performance against No. 5 Northwestern and leads the Big Ten with a .667 free position percentage.
• Senior Julia Braig and junior Lizzie Colson guide the Maryland defense. Braig is second on the team with 11 caused turnovers while Colson is leads the team in groundballs (27) and caused turnovers (12) and stands second with 70 draw controls.

REESE BECOMES MARYLAND'S ALL-TIME WINNINGEST COACH
• In last Wednesday's 16-6 win at No. 8 Virginia, head coach Cathy Reese became the program's all-time winningest coach, breaking her former college coach and eight-time National Champion, Cindy Timchal's record.
• Reese, in her 13th season at the helm of the program is now 232-21 as the head coach of Maryland and has won four National Championships. 

MARYLAND DAIRY INTRODUCES CATHY REESE'S VICTORY SWIRL
• The Maryland Dairy, located in the Stamp Student Union has made an ice cream for head coach Cathy Reese, "Cathy Reese's Victory Swirl" debuted it at their shop on Monday. 
• The ice cream, which Reese picked out herself, includes vanilla ice cream, reeses peanut butter cups, reeses pieces and a chocolate fudge swirl.

AWARD TIME FOR MEGAN TAYLOR
• Senior Megan Taylor has won a handful of awards over the past weeks, garnering Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors in each of the past six weeks and IWLCA National Player of the Week honors on March 13 and 20 and April 10.
• Taylor now leads the NCAA with a .598 save percentage, having saved 143 shots to only allowing 96 goals. The senior also is third in the coiuntry with a 7.33 goals against average. Taylor and Maryland have the third best scoring defense in the country, only allowing 6.87 goals per game.
• With her 600th career save a few weeks back against Ohio State, Taylor is also the current NCAA save leader, having the most in her career of any goalkeeper in the country.

SEVEN TERPS ON TEWAARATON WATCH LIST
• Seven members of the No. 2 Maryland women's lacrosse team, the most in the country, were named to the initial Tewaaraton Watch List, as announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation.
• Graduate midfielder Erica Evans, four seniors: Julia BraigJen GilesCaroline Steele and Megan Taylor and junior defender Lizzie Colson were all selected for the watch list. Last week, Kali Hartshorn was added to the list. 
• The Terps have the most players in the country named to the watch list. Each Terp named to the list was selected as a preseason All-American by Inside Lacrosse, while Braig, Giles and Taylor were named Maryland's Big Ten Players to Watch. 
• Taylor has now been selected for the Tewaaraton Watch List in three straight seasons. It's the second appearance for Braig, Evans, Giles and Steele, while Colson and Hartshorn makes an appearance on the watch list for the first time. Last season, both Braig and Taylor were named one of 25 Tewaaraton nominees.  

SCOUTING THE HOYAS
• No. 24 Georgetown stands at 8-6 this season with tight losses to ranked opponents Loyola, Johns Hopkins and Penn. 
• Maryland is 24-4 all-time against Georgetown. 
• Last year, eight Terrapins scored goals as the No. 2 Maryland women's lacrosse team overtook Georgetown, 17-5, Wednesday evening at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Kali Hartshorn and Caroline Steele led the way for Maryland offensively with four goals and one assist apiece.
