COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- For the fifth straight week, senior
Megan Taylor was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after a standout pair of games, the conference announced Tuesday.
In the Terps two wins over #14 Princeton and Rutgers this past week, Taylor tallied 20 saves to only eight goals allowed, a .714 save percentage. Against Princeton, the senior had double the amount of saves as she did goals allowed, with 14 to only seven goals, a .667 save percentage, holding Princeton to their lowest goal total of the season. In the first half against Rutgers, Taylor helped Maryland jolt out to an 11-1 lead, notching six saves to only one goal allowed, an .857 save percentage.
Now on the season, Taylor has the highest save percentage in the country at .604 (113 saves, 74 goals allowed) and leads the Maryland defense that has held its opponents to just five goals per game this past week and just 6.75 goals per game this season, the third best mark in the country. Taylor has over a 50-percent save percentage in every game this season.
This is the fifth week in a row that Taylor has earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors, over that time recording a .640 save percentage at 80 saves and only 45 goals allowed. Taylor's streak of winning the award is the longest by any Maryland player since the Terps joined the conference in 2015.
Taylor and the Terps will be back in action tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. at #8 Virginia, before returning home for Senior Day on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. against #7 Michigan.
