PHILADELPHIA – On the final day of the 125th running of the Penn Relays,
Greg Thompson set a new Maryland record, the Penn Relays record, and earned himself the highest mark in the NCAA in the discus throw, crushing his previous record throw of 61.39m with a remarkable 65.56m heave. Thompson has won the discus throw in five of the seven meets he has competed at this season and earned himself the U.S. Army Strong Performance of the Day, awarded by the Penn Relays.
Maryland's 4x400m relay squad of
Aaron Robinson,
Dashawn Morris,
Hazem Miawad and
Kameron Jones took second in the Championship of America Invitational race, improving upon their school record with a 3:06.51 and continuing to display their blazing speed. Houston took first in the event and also took home victories in the 4x100 and 4x200 Championship of America sprint relays.
Carlos Vanzego finished atop the leaderboard in the triple jump, winning the event by clearing 14.99m, his second-best jump of the season.
Sam Shoultz earned himself a podium finish, placing third in the championship high jump with a leap of 2.12m and
Alexandra Lucki ran a hard-fought race in the women's Olympic Development Mile, placing fourth with a 4:46.41
Next weekend, Maryland hosts the Kehoe Twilight Meet, its last regular-season meet of the outdoor season before heading to the Big Ten Outdoor Championships and eventually NCAA postseason competition.
