IOWA CITY, Iowa –
Greg Thompson became Maryland's first-ever men's Big Ten Individual Champion, taking first in the discus throw with a heave of 57.76m. This feat also puts Thompson in the record books as the first men's conference champion in the discus event since 1989 and the eighth conference champion in discus in school history. Since joining the conference in 2015, Maryland has had individual champions on the women's team with Thea LaFond (2x '15) and Amber Melville ('15). Thompson's victory earned him status as 2019 Men's Outdoor Track & Field All-Big Ten First Team.

Xahria Santiago became the back-to-back runner up in the 400m hurdles after earning a silver medal for the second year in a row. Santiago leaned at the line in a tight finish that only separated the winner by .01 seconds. Santiago ran a season best of 57.69 seconds.

Leah Blackall joined Santiago in earning All-Big Ten second team honors with her 2
nd place finish in the women's triple jump. Blackall improved her marks on almost every attempt to secure the runner up position with a leap of 12.96m.Â

The men's 4x400m relay squad ran to a third place finish to earn a spot on the podium in a medal position. The team comprised of
Aaron Robinson,
Colin Rowe,
Hazem Miawad, and
Kameron Jones crossed the line in 3:08.14.

Kameron Jones set a new school record in the 400m dash en route to a fifth place finish in this event. Jones ran 46.17 in a close finish. FreshmanÂ
Dashawn Morris finished seventh in the 400m dash running 46.86.

The women tallied some additional points in a variety of events and relays.Â
Mikella Lefebvre-Oatis finished 4
th in the high jump competition clearing 1.73m (5'8").
Alexandra Lucki crossed the line 5
th in the 1500m run, battling to the finish line in a time of 4:21.19.Â

Both women's relay squads finished in scoring positions. The 4x400m relay team of
Xahria Santiago,
Thaila Cooper,
Cheyenne Jones, and
Venida Fagan ran 3:40.55 to finish 6
th. The 4x100m relay squad of
Imani Gray,
Jaida Smith,
Venida Fagan, and
Bria Mack earned an 8
th place finish crossing the line in 45.94.

In the women's 5k competition, Brit Lang finished off her season running 17:26.95 and senior
Emily Bracher ran a season best 17:56.35.Â

Nate Moore and
Carlos Vanzego finished back to back in the men's triple jump competition. Moore jumped a season best of 14.95m to finish 10
th and Vanzego jumped 14.90m for 11
th place.Â

The women matched their best team finish since 2015 and the men doubled their points from last year's conference championships.Â

The team will have a week of rest and training before heading to the NCAA East Regional held in Jacksonville, FL on May 23.
