Terps Set for U19 World Championships

PETERBOROUGH, Ontario -- Maryland women's lacrosse will have a heavy presence in the upcoming U19 World Lacrosse Championships, which begin Tuesday in Canada. 

Incoming Terp Emma Schettig will compete for the United States National Team while rising sophomore Kennedy Lynch will play for the Canada National Team.

The Terps will be well represented in the coaching ranks as well as Kelly Amonte Hiller ('96) will lead the US team, Jen Adams ('01) will head the Australian team and Laura Merrifield ('11) will coach the England National Team. 

Schettig, a midfielder who is currently the No. 6 ranked incoming freshmen in the country by Inside Lacrosse, played high school lacrosse at McDonogh and was named an Under Armour All-American. Lynch, also a midfielder, played for Garrison Forrest High School and appeared in two games during her freshman season for the National Champion 2019 Terps. 

Canada won the 2015 U19 Championship, the U.S. won the four previous (1999, 2003, 2007, 2011) and Australia won the inaugural title in 1995. 2019 graduate Erica Evans played on the Canadian team that won the 2015 title while 2017 graduate Theo Kwas competed for the Australian team.

Opening ceremonies for the 2019 world championship in Peterborough, Ontario will be held on July 31 with game action beginning on Aug. 1. The four teams with Maryland representation (USA, Canada, England, Australia) are all in Pool A and will be each other round robin style with games on Friday, August 2 - Sunday, August 4. The playoff round begins on Aug. 6 with the championship game set for Aug. 10. For the complete game schedule, click here.

On Friday, August 2, USA will play Australia at 5:00 p.m. to kick things off and England will take on Canada following that at 8:00 p.m. Games can be seen on LaxSportsNetwork.
