COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland women's soccer team will take its two-game win streak on the road this weekend with two game in Athens, Ga., at the 2019 Bulldog Classic. The Terps will first battle Auburn on Friday at 4:30 p.m., before taking on host Georgia on Sunday, September 1 at noon. Maryland's matchup with Georgia on Sunday will be streamed on SECN+ with Jeff Dantzler (PxP) and Marion Crowder Cole (analyst) on the call. 

Maryland Opens Season with Two-Win Weekend

• The Maryland women's soccer team won both of its opening weekend games for the second time in three years after wins over Georgia Southern (8/22) and NJIT (8/25). 

• Mikayla Dayes scored the game-winner and assisted on Alyssa Poarch's first half goal as Maryland clinched a 2-1 season-opening win over Georgia Southern on August 22.

• Junior Hope Lewandoski tallied her first goal of the season in a critical moment, netting the game-winner for Maryland in double overtime against NJIT to cap the two-win weekend

• The win over NJIT was Maryland's first overtime victory since a 2-1 2OT win over Gardner-Webb on Aug. 25, 2017.

Leone Closing in on 300

• Maryland head coach Ray Leone sits just two wins from his historic 300th victory as a collegiate women's soccer head coach.

• Leone would become just the 26th active Division I women's soccer coach to reach the milestone, and only the second active coach in the Big Ten to reach 300 victories.

Leone Coaching Honors

• Has won six conference titles and two conference Coach of the Year awards in his career.
• Led three different schools to the NCAA Tournament (Arizona State, Clemson, Harvard).
• Won the NAIA National Championship at Berry College in his second year.
• Has had 23 winning seasons over his coaching career.
• Ranks in the top-30 among active Division I head coaches in career wins.
• Was a part of starting three college women's soccer programs as an assistant at Clemson and as the first head coach of Berry College and Creighton.

Three Terps Named to B1G Preseason Honors List

• Junior Malikae Dayes and Mikayla Dayes, in addition to redshirt sophomore Alyssa Poarch were named Big Ten Players to Watch for the 2019 season on August 19. MORE

Home Sweet Home

• Maryland's schedule is front-loaded with home games to start the season, as the Terrapins will play seven of their first 10 games in the friendly confines of Ludwig Field.

• The Terps have been solid at home the past two seasons, holding a 7-7-4 record in games in College Park during that span.

• After a trip to Georgia to Athens for the Bulldog Classic, the only other road trip for the Terps is a short trip to Washington, D.C. to face George Washington on September 8.

Poarch, Wynn Garner WPSL Honors

• Redshirt sophomore Alyssa Poarch and freshman Keyera Wynn were both named the Offensive Players of the Year in their respective Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) Divisions on August 23.

• Poarch had a standout summer in the WPSL, leading the league in points (37) on 16 goals and five assists for the Coastal Atlantic FC (CAFC) Ospreys to earn OPOY honors in the Mid-Atlantic Colonial division.  

• Wynn was named the OPOY in the Carolinas Conference Northern Division, scoring three goals for North Carolina Fusion U-23 this summer.

Terps Sign Team Impact Teammate Mikayla Hirsch

The Maryland women's soccer program officially welcomed nine-year-old Team IMPACT teammate Mikayla Hirsch to the program on August 11 in a signing ceremony held in Heritage Hall of the XFINITY Center.

• Mikayla and the Terrapins were brought together by Boston-headquartered national nonprofit Team IMPACT, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing serious and chronic illnesses through the power of team. Mikayla was diagnosed in 2014 with Crohn's Disease. 

• Through Team IMPACT's program at the University of Maryland, Mikayla is now an official member of the Women's Soccer Team. As a team member, she will attend Terps practices, games, team dinners, events, and more.

• Mikayla's Maryland connection is a deep-rooted one, as both of her parents Leah and Keith are graduates of the university. The family currently resides in Alexandria, Va. 

Leone Adds Celestin, Dziczkaniec to Staff

• Maryland women's soccer head coach Ray Leone has announced the addition of assistant coaches Ron Celestin and Kerry Dziczkaniec to his staff in May for the 2019 season. The duo of veteran coaches bring a litany of impressive accolades to College Park, which includes a pair of National Assistant Coach of the Year honors, and will support in all aspects of the program.

Leone on Celestin: "Ron has been successful every place he has been," said Leone. "He has an excellent ability to coach and develop players at every level, and has deep ties to the soccer community throughout the country. Ron has coached on the big stage, guiding a team to the Final Four while producing player of the year and professional caliber student-athletes during his career." 

Leone on Dzickaniec: "We're excited to have Kerry back at Maryland where she spent six seasons as an assistant," said Leone. "She has a wealth of experience as a player, head coach and assistant coach, and will be a great fit for our program. She has coached some of the best players in the nation and on the U.S. National Team, and helped lead Virginia to back-to-back Final Fours. Kerry will do a great job with our goalkeepers and will be a great example for our team."
