SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior
Kaila Charles of 10
th-ranked Maryland is one of 10 players in the country named to the Cheryl Miller Award Watch List Wednesday.
Named after the three-time Naismith Player of the Year and Class of 1995 Hall of Famer, the annual award in its third year recognizes the top small forwards in women's NCAA Division I college basketball.
Charles, who is the Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year, is leading the Terrapins (20-4, 11-2 B1G) in scoring (14.9 ppg) and rebounding (7.8 rpg). She is also averaging 1.8 steals per game and shooting 50 percent from the field on the season.
Charles recently moved to No. 8 on Maryland's all-time scoring list with 1,886 career points. She is also No. 9 on the Terps' all-time rebounding list with 886 career boards. Charles has started in all 127 games of her career and has a chance to break Alyssa Thomas' record of 135.
Charles was named Big Ten Player of the Week for the second time this season and for her 12
th weekly career weekly honor earlier this week.

The Selection Committee for the Cheryl Miller Award is composed of top women's college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers. In March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Miller and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. New to the award this season is Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies. Charles is also one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award. Fans can vote for her
here. She was also named to the Citizen Naismith Trophy Midseason List and the Wooden Award Midseason List. Senior
Blair Watson is one of 15 players on the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year watch list.
The Terps have won nine straight games, dating back to Jan. 12. Maryland reached the 20-win mark for the 16
th straight season Sunday.
Next, the Terrapins will host No. 17 Iowa (20-4, 11-2) Thursday at 6 p.m.
