Brindi Griffin were selected as all-americans by Inside Lacrosse, the publication announced Tuesday.
Schettig was named a Second Team All-American and Doherty and Griffin were named Honorable Mention All-Americans.
In Maryland's shortened six game season, Schettig shined as a freshman, leading the Terps with 17 groundballs and nine caused turnovers, while ranking second with 16 draw controls. The freshman stepped into a starting role right away, picking up four groundballs and causing two turnovers in Maryland's season opener at George Mason.
In the Terps home contest against #4 Syracuse, Schettig tallied a game-best five groundballs and three caused turnovers, earning her Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors. Her five groundballs were the most by any Maryland freshman since 2016. In total, Schettig had four games with three or more groundballs, three games with two or more caused turnovers and won seven draw controls in each of the Terps final two games. Schettig ranked third in the Big Ten in caused turnovers and fourth in groundballs.Â
Schettig is the first Maryland freshman to be second team or higher since the publication began its all-american teams in 2017.
Kali Hartshorn was an Honorable Mention All-American in her freshman 2017 season.Â
A Second Team Preseason All-American, Doherty also led the team with nine caused turnovers and tallied 12 groundballs over the Terps six games. Doherty had three groundballs in each of Maryland's final three games and over two caused turnovers in three of the Terps game including a career-high four against #4 Syracuse on February 29. The senior ranked third in the Big Ten with her nine caused turnovers. Having started in all 71 games of her career at Maryland, Doherty ended the 2020 season with 76 groundballs and 54 caused turnovers. This is Doherty's first career all-american nod.Â
The Inside Lacrosse Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year, Griffin led Maryland with 15 goals in the Terps six games and stood second on the team with 18 points. Griffin scored in all six games and had eight goals over Maryland's final two wins against #17 Navy and Hofstra, earning her Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors following the final week of the year. In the final game against Hofstra, Griffin led Maryland with a season-high five goals, marking the second-highest single-game total of her career. Griffin played in 73 games during her Maryland career with 49 starts, scoring 97 goals and posting 56 assists and 151 points. This is Griffin's first career all-american nod.Â
