Each week during the spring, umterps.com will profile a different member of the Maryland women's soccer team leading up to the 2020 season. This week we'll get to know redshirt senior Niven Hegeman, who is back for her final season with the Terps after suffering a season-ending injury this past August. With 27 career starts to her name, Hegeman's veteran presence in the defensive third will be major strength for Maryland in the year ahead.

What attracted you to the University of Maryland?
The amazing athletic facilities, outstanding academics, and PRIDE the school has. Also being a Maryland native, I was attracted to representing my state
If you could play another sport at Maryland what would it be?
Volleyball because I have always enjoyed playing volleyball when growing up
What is your favorite memory from playing soccer?Â
My favorite memory is beating Rutgers at Rutgers this past season

Yes, I like to cook steak with mac-n-cheese, broccoli and rice

Going to Breckenridge, Colorado for my oldest sister's wedding.
