AAU Sullivan Award To Be Presented Wednesday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The ceremony for the 90th AAU James E. Sullivan Award, originally scheduled to be held at the historic New York Athletic Club – will now take place virtually tomorrow night, Wednesday, April 29 starting at 8 p.m. ET due to safety concerns related to COVID-19. Women's lacrosse goalie Megan Taylor is one of 10 finalists for the most prestigious prize in amateur athletics.

The announcement of the winner of the 90th AAU James E. Sullivan Award will air on Facebook.com/SportsStoriespodcast. Each of the 10 candidates, including Taylor, will virtually participate in the ceremony from their homes, including a one-on-one interview. Taylor is the first lacrosse player ever, men's or women's to be named a finalist for the AAU Sullivan Award, which has been given out since 1930 to the nation's best amateur athlete.

Taylor had arguably the most decorated career ever by a lacrosse goalie, becoming the first goaltender to win the Tewaaraton Award last season after leading Maryland to the 2019 National Championship by sporting a .551 save percentage, the best of any power five goalie in the country. Taylor was also named the IWLCA National Player of the Year, the Honda Award winner, the University of Maryland Student-Athlete of the Year, a First Team All-American and was the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player.

The Maryland legend is joined by an impressive group of finalists including Evita Griskenas (rhythmic gymnastics), Grant Holloway (track and field), Markus Howard (men's basketball), Sabrina Ionescu (women's basketball), Trevor Lawrence (football), Spencer Lee (wrestling), Dana Rettke (women's volleyball), Kyla Ross (gymnastics) and Abbey Weitzeil (women's swimming).
