 THIS WEEK'S STORYLINES

Maryland Upended on the Road Last Week

  • Maryland played two tight road contests last weekend, falling to Iowa 2-0 before being edged 2-1 at Illinois on Sunday.
  • Hope Lewandoski opened up the scoring early in the first half against Illinois, notching her second goal of the season with a strike in the ninth minute. Kori Locksley set her up for the score, her second assist of the year.
  • Graduate student goalkeeper Liz Brucia was admirable in the cage for the Terps on Sunday, making eight saves including several diving stops to help the Terps withstand a first half barrage from Illinois.

Thanks for the Memories KK!
  • Maryland recognized its Team Impact teammate Mikayla "KK" Hirsch before its game against Northwestern Sunday in a pregame graduation ceremony.
  • KK, who was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in 2014, was officially signed to the Terps roster before the 2019 season and has been a mainstay on the sidelines of Ludwig Field supporting the Terps.
  • Members of the Hirsch family joined players and coaches from both Maryland and Northwestern on the field to present KK with gifts and pose for photos.
  • Team IMPACT is a national nonprofit headquartered in Boston, MA that connects children facing serious or chronic illnesses with college athletic teams, forming lifelong bonds and life-changing outcomes. Maryland Athletics has partnered with the organization for nearly a decade to match children with the school's varsity programs.

  • Maryland's defense was impressive throughout both games, going 199 minutes without surrendering a goal before a late Wildcat score tied the game in the 90th minute Sunday.
  • Loren Sefcik netted the lone goal for the Terps on the weekend, beating the keeper after Alyssa Poarch played a beautiful ball into the box to set up the play.

Conference Play is Here to Stay
  • Maryland is in the midst of its eighth season of Big Ten play since joining the conference in 2014.
  • The Terps put together their best-ever finish in the conference just a few years ago, going 5-5-1 in B1G play for a sixth-place finish. Maryland earned its first trip to the Big Ten Tournament that season.
  • After playing three home games to start off conference play, the Terps now enter a challenging stretch of three straight games on the road. Five of Maryland's final seven games are road games.
