COLLEGE PARK, Md. -  The Maryland women's lacrosse team will open up their 2021 home slate as the No. 10 Terps welcome No. 17 Michigan to College Park for two games this weekend, at Friday, February 26 at 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, Sunday February 28 at 12:00 p.m. Both games will be streamed on BTN Plus.

MICHIGAN STORYLINES

COLSON COMEBACK
  • A two-time IWLCA Third Team All-American, Lizzie Colson returns to the fold for Maryland in 2021 after missing the shortened 2020 season due to an ACL injury which occurred at Team USA tryouts in the summer of 2019.
  • The No. 14 ranked player in all of lacrosse by Inside Lacrosse, Colson leads a Maryland defense with her 101 career groundballs, 244 career draw controls and 61 career caused turnovers. Colson's 244 draw controls are fourth all-time in program history and are only 10 away from third all-time.
  • In her first game back at #21 Penn State, Colson led Maryland with four caused turnovers, her career-high.

BRINDI IS BACK
  • Brindi Griffin, who has helped lead Maryland to two national championships, three final fours and five conference championships is back for the 2021 season, taking advantage of the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA for student-athletes that had their season impacted by COVID-19. 
  • Griffin, a two-time captain, will lead the Maryland attack, having tallied 9 goals, 54 assists, 163 points and 55 groundballs over her three and a half seasons. The 2020 Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year was key in Maryland's 2019 National Championship run, scoring nine goals in the Final Four en route to a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament Team.

HOME DOMINANCE
  • Maryland has dominated at home under head coach Cathy Reese, standing at 145-4 since Reese took over in 2007.
  • The Terps have gone undefeated in College Park in 11 of Reese's 14 seasons at the helm of the program.
  • From March 12, 2012 to February 15, 2020, Maryland won 86 games in a row at home, the longest home winning streak in all of Division One sports.

  • The Terps will play a Big Ten only schedule in 2021, playing each of the six conference opponents twice over the course of the season.

  • Maryland and Penn State last met on Senior Day in 2019 in a battle of undefeated teams that was dominated by the Terps, a 14-3 victory. The senior duo of Jen Giles (four goals, one assist) and Megan Taylor (10 saves) led the way for Maryland.
