COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Iowa's Gianna Gourley scored with 2:58 left in the first overtime period to give the Hawkeyes a 1-0 win over the Maryland women's soccer team at Ludwig Field Sunday afternoon.
Prior to the match, Maryland honored seven seniors:
Hope Lewandoski,
Alyssa Poarch,
Malikae Dayes,
Alexis Hogarth,
Anissa Mose,
Mikayla Dayes and
Sydney Staier for their contributions to the program.Â
In a scrappy affair that saw both teams gain the upper hand for period, Iowa earned their first win of the season through Gourley's effort which just floated over
Kennedy Tolson and into the goal. Just seconds earlier, Tolson made a tremendous one-handed stop to save the match. The redshirt freshman made eight saves in the match.
The Terps best period of play came in the final 15 minutes of regulation time.
Alyssa Poarch had a pair of solid attempts from outside the box but could not keep them on frame.Â
Maryland returns to action on March 25 at Wisconsin.Â
