COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Terrapins volleyball program has added graduate transfer Lexi Kohut, Head Coach Adam Hughes announced on Friday.
"We're so excited to be adding Lexi to the Terrapins family," Hughes said. "She brings four years of incredible experience as a dynamic outside hitter at App State and will add depth to a really important position. Lexi's situation is incredibly unique, she actually came here to begin her career in academic services and fell in love with what Maryland and the Big Ten has to offer. We know she will be a perfect fit for our team and university culture."
A Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, native, Kohut spent the last four years at Appalachian State where she helped her team win the 2018 Sun Belt Championship. In her undergraduate stint she appeared in 66 contests over four seasons. Kohut racked up 619 kills, 204 digs, and 93 blocks as one of the Mountaineers' best offensive weapons.
In high school Kohut earned second-team all-state, first-team all-region and first-team all-conference in 2016. She also collected all-region and all-conference selections from 2013-15, including honorable mention all-state in 2015. Kohut competed for Michigan Elite Volleyball Academy and was named to the 2015 AVCA Phenom List and the 2016 Under Armour All-American Watch List.
This is the fourth transfer of the offseason for Hughes and his staff after adding Hannah Thompson from Notre Dame, Kaylee Thomas from Alabama, and Paula Neciporuka from VCU earlier this summer.
Kohut has been honored several times by the conference including being named Freshman of the Week her rookie year. She graduated from App State with a degree in recreation management.
Maryland's 2021 campaign officially begins on August 27 against former ACC rival Virginia. After 12 total nonconference matches the Terps will enter their Big Ten conference slate to close out the season. Check HERE for ticket information.
