COLLEGE PARK, MD -- No. 14 Maryland (4-1) will play three games in the Elevance Health Women's Fort Myers Tip-Off this weekend at the Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers, Fla. The Terrapins will take on DePaul (2-2), Towson (3-0) and Pitt (4-0) in the event.

What's UP

The Terrapins are back in action in the Elevance Health Women's Fort Myers Tip-Off after a 73-68 win at No. 17 Baylor Sunday. Diamond Miller posted a career-high 32 points with 10 rebounds to lead the Terrapins. Abby Meyers added 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
Miller was named Big Ten Player of the Week Monday for her first career weekly honor. She averaged 25.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.5 steals while shooting 53 percent (18-34) from the floor in the Terps' two wins.
Heading into this weekend's games, Lavender Briggs needs 15 points to reach the 1,000-career points mark.
Maryland women's basketball is in its 52nd season and owns a record of 1,082-444 (.709). The Terrapins are No. 11 all-time in NCAA Division I history in winning percentage and No. 9 in all-time victories.
Senior Diamond Miller was named to the 10-player Preseason All-Big Ten Team for the second straight season to start the year. She is a two-time All-Big Ten honoree and was the 2021 Big Ten Tournament Co-MOP.
Miller is one of 20 top players in the country on the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List, an honor by the Basketball Hall of Fame recognizing the top shooting guard in women's NCAA Division I basketball. Miller was named to the watch list last year as well.
Miller was also named to the Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Watch List as one of the top 50 players in the country.
Sophomore Shyanne Sellers is one of 20 top players in the country on the Cheryl Miller Award Watch List, an honor by the Basketball Hall of Fame recognizing the top small forward in women's NCAA Division I basketball.
Maryland was picked to finish fourth in the Big Ten by both the league's head coaches and media panel. Both groups picked Iowa to win the conference. The coaches selected Ohio State to finish second, Indiana to finish third with Michigan rounding out the top five. The media panel picked Indiana to finish second, Ohio State third and Michigan fifth.
Two-time National Coach of the Year Brenda Frese brings in nine new players this season, including AP Honorable Mention All-American honoree Abby Meyers (Princeton), All-SEC transfer Lavender Briggs (Florida), All-AAC transfer Elisa Pinzan (USF), SEC graduate transfer Brinae Alexander (Vanderbilt) and All-CAA transfer Allie Kubek (Towson).
All five transfers averaged over 9.0 points per game last year - Meyers (17.9), Alexander (15.2), Briggs (12.5), Kubek (12.2) and Pinzan (9.3).
Last spring, Frese also signed two top-55 incoming freshmen in Gia Cooke and Bri McDaniel. Incoming freshman Ava Sciolla and Mila Reynolds signed with Maryland last November, giving the Terrapins a top 10 recruiting class for the 15th time under Frese.
The Terrapins are ranked No. 14 in the latest Associated Press poll (Nov. 21) and No. 17 in the latest USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll (Nov. 22).

Series history

Friday's matchup with DePaul is the first for the two schools since 2001. Maryland took their only meeting, 54-36, on Nov. 23, 2001 in a Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament in Ames, Iowa.
Towson head coach Laura Harper played under Frese at Maryland from 2005-08. Together, they won the 2006 NCAA title and Harper was named Final Four Most Outstanding Player.
Maryland owns the series over Towson, 17-5, and has won eight straight matchups in the series. Most recently, Maryland won 112-78 in College Park on Dec. 3, 2020.
Maryland is 9-1 all-time vs. Pitt. Most recently, Maryland won 70-49 on Nov. 28, 2015 in the Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, USVI.

Head coach Brenda Frese is in her 21st season in College Park. She's led the Terrapins to a record of 539-141 (.793), 14 conference titles, 18 NCAA Tournament bids in 20 postseasons, three Final Fours, six Elite Eights, 10 Sweet Sixteens and the 2006 NCAA Championship.
Frese owns a career record of 596-171 (.777) over her 24 years as a head coach.
Frese was named National Coach of the Year by the AP, The Athletic and ESPN at the end of the 2020-21 season. In October, Frese was the first woman inducted into the Washington DC Metro Basketball Hall of Fame.
With the Terrapins' win at Nebraska on Feb. 14, 2021, Frese picked up win No. 500 at Maryland, which makes her the winningest coach in Maryland basketball history. Hall of Fame women's basketball head coach Chris Weller won 499 games in her 27 seasons (1975-02).
