Terrapins Face Iowa in Final Road Match of Regular Season

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland completes its final road trip of the season as it heads to Iowa City to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Terrapins will look to get their first win over the Hawkeyes in the series since 2018, when the Terps got a 4-0 victory over the Hawkeyes on Sept. 14, 2018.

The game will air on B1G+.

The Terps are coming off a 3-0 loss at Nebraska on Oct. 12. Liz Beardsley had another strong performance for the Terrapins in the match, collecting five saves against the Cornhuskers. Maryland had two tremendous chances in the game, but were unable to put them in the net.

Series History - Iowa
  • The Terrapins and the Hawkeyes have met seven times, with each meeting taking place since the Terps joined the Big Ten in 2014.
  • The last time the two met was in 2021, with the Hawkeyes getting a 2-0 win over the Terrapins in Iowa City. The last win for the Terps in the series came in 2018 in a 4-0 win in Ludwig.
  • Jarena Harmon led the Terps with a pair of goals in the 2018 meeting, both coming in an eight minute stretch in the second half. In the 72nd minute, Darby Moore added the third goal of the game for the Terps. Alyssa Poarch capped off the scoring for the Terps in the 84th minute.
  • Goalkeeper Rachel Egyed was a thorn in the side of the Iowa offense all game, as she stopped seven shots to shut out the visiting Hawkeyes.

Last Time Out
  • The Terrapins faced Nebraska to start their final road trip of the 2023 season. The Terrapins had their chances, but couldn't get their opportunities in the back of the net, coming out with a 3-0 defeat.
  • Liz Beardsley made five saves in the match and now has 55 on the season, and did her part to keep the visiting Terps in the match throughout the game.
  • Peyton Bernard got the first clear chance for the Terrapins in the match in the 8th minute, as she pounced a ball that got away from a Nebraska defender. Bernard fired a shot in the box, but it went off the crossbar.
  • The second great opportunity came from Kennedy Bell, who had the ball fall to her feet on a cross into the box, but the left-footed shot was just stopped by the Nebraska keeper.

Kennedy Bell had another strong game for the Terps. The freshman defender got one of the Terps best opportunities in the match on a cross. The left-footed effort nearly put the Terrapins in front in the first half of the match.
Scouting the Hawkeyes
  • The Hawkeyes come into this match with an 8-3-3 and a 2-3-2 record in the Big Ten. The Hawkeyes are coming off a 2-1 defeat against Northwestern in Iowa City on Oct. 12
  • The Hawkeyes are led in goals by Elle Otto, who has four goals on the campaign. Kenzie Roling leads the team with five assists on the season, which ranks in the top ten in the conference. Roling pairs those five assists with three goals in 2023 to give the junior a team leading 11 points on the season.
  • In goal, Iowa is led by Macy Enneking. Enneking has started every game for Iowa this year and has 44 saves for a save percentage of 0.830. Enneking has only allowed nine goals this season, which gives the senior a GAA of 0.65. Enneking has allowed the third fewest goals in the Big Ten and the GAA of 0.65 ranks in the top 35 nationally. Enneking leads the conference this year with eight shutouts on the campaign, which also ranks in the top ten nationally.

  • The Terrapins have held six shutouts this season, which ties the most shutouts for the team since they moved to the Big Ten in 2014. The Terps have had two previous seasons where they had six shutouts in a season since joining the conference, coming in 2014 and 2019.
  • Liz Beardsley has been in goal for all six shutouts this season, making her the first Terrapins goalkeeper to have six shutouts in a season since Erin Seppi in 2019. The other goalkeeper to accomplish this feat since moving into the Big Ten was Rachelle Beanlands, who did it in Maryland's inaugural season in the conference in 2014.
  • Beardsley's six shutouts in 2023 are tied for the eighth-most in a single season for a Maryland goalkeeper, as the junior keeper has put together a tremendous season
