NEW YORK, NY -- Maryland was not able to complete a late comeback against Columbia in its regular season finale, coming up short 18-16.
The dual was close throughout, as the Terps used early boosts from a King Sandoval win as well as a sudden victory win from Ethen Miller to stay within striking distance, despite the Lions claiming six of the first eight bouts. Miller forced overtime in his match by scoring a reversal in the closing 10 seconds of regulation.
Columbia won four straight bouts in the middle of the dual, creating a nine-point advantage with just two bouts remaining. Maryland did not allow the Lions to get any bonus points all match. Jaxon Smith scored bonus points to keep the Terps alive late, but Maryland could only win by a pin by Jaron Smith that could not be found. Smith still claimed a 7-3 decision in the final regular season match of his eight-year career.
