Terps Strike Early, Dominate Maine In Series Opener, 25-10

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland (6-7) continued its homestand in a big way on Friday with a series-opening 25-10 win over Maine (3-6) at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium in College Park, Maryland. With the win, the Terps now improve to 3-1 at home on the season.

The Terps scored a season-high 25 runs in the win behind six home runs, two each from Nick Lorusso, Elijah Lambros and Matt Shaw. After scoring twice in each of the first two innings, Maryland exploded for eight runs in the third, highlighted by a grand slam from Lambros and scored runs in seven of their eight innings at the plate on Friday. It was the most runs scored in a game for Maryland since defeating Towson, 26-8, on March 29, 2022.

Lambros's blast was his first-career grand slam and Maryland's fifth of the season. He finished the game with a career-high seven RBI, the most by a Maryland player since Shaw had eight RBI for the Terps against Michigan on May 14, 2022.

The Terps ended up hitting five homers in the first three innings of the game, including back-to-back shots from Lorusso and Shaw in the first and third innings, respectively. Shaw broke an eight-game homerless drought in the process and Lorusso recorded his second multi-homer game of the season

All told, six Maryland players had multi-hit games, eight scored multiple runs and six drove in multiple runs, with Lambros leading the charge with five RBI. Luke Shliger and Lorusso both had three-hit games and Lambros, Kevin Keister, Matt Woods, Bobby Zmarzlak led Maryland with three runs scored. Every Terps starter scored at least one run in the win.

On the mound, Jason Savacool bounced back in a big way, striking out six in six innings of work, giving up one unearned run. He earned his second win of the season and recorded his second quality start of the season.
