COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland (11-8) clinched a series win on Sunday afternoon with a 4-0 one-hit shutout victory over Albany (3-9-1) at Bob 'Turtle' Smith Stadium. The Terps win their second-straight home series as a result and third of the season overall. The Terps have won seven of eight games overall.
Freshman left-hander Kyle McCoy had his best start in a Maryland uniform to date, striking out five and giving up one hit over five scoreless innings to work to begin Sunday's series finale. Over his last three outings, he's struck out nine and given up three earned runs over 12 innings of work.
Following McCoy's great outing on the mound, Nate Haberthier closed the job for Maryland, striking out four over four hitless innings of work and tallying his first save as a Terrapin. All told, Maryland pitching allowed just two hits and two runners overall.
Maryland took the lead in the bottom of the third inning with two runs, first coming from an RBI double from
Luke Shliger and an RBI single from
Nick Lorusso following.
Matt Shaw doubled the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning with a two-run homer, his fourth of the season for the Terps.
Lorusso not only leads the Terps with 31 RBI, but since going hitless in Maryland's season opener against South Florida, he has a hit in every game he's played in since, currently an 18-game hitting streak after recording a hit on Sunday.
