Gainesville, FL – The Maryland track and field squads competed on day one of the Florida Relays in Gainesville Florida.
Day one of competition was highlighted by Kayla Thorpe's javelin performance, which saw her break the program record for the second time this season.

Women's Notes:

Kayla Thorpe (46.84m) set a new program record in the javelin with her personal best performance. The second time she has broken the program record this season.

Anna Coffin (4:22.01) raced to the 4th fastest time in Terps history in the 1500m with a 4 second personal best.

Katie Turk (4:38.39) and Amanda Eliker also competed in the 1500.

Michaela Bracken (1:00.90) and Tolu Akinduro competed in the 400m hurdles.

Maryland's 4x400 squad of Lyles, Robling, Hickson and Bracken qualified for the finals with a 3:44.40 finish.

Kamryn Henderson (53.20m) took 11th in the hammer throw.
Men's Notes:

Brandon Turpin (53.33) and Drake Murphy (53.42) set personal bests in the 400m hurdles.

Brandon James sprinted to a 21.39 finish in the 200m. Ako Hislop (21.51) also had a strong run in the 200m and Joe Ewan competed in this event.

Luke Tobia (56.66m) competed in the hammer throw.

Marylands 4x100 squad of Ewan, Collins, James and Hislop raced to a 40.87 finish.

"This was a good day to capitalize on the competition here at Florida Relays. We already started off with a school record and several personal bests."
