Terps Take Win In Game Two Against Nebraska, 2-0

Box Score COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland edged out Nebraska, 2-0, in front of Terp softball legends at this year's Alumni Day. With the win, Maryland improved to 27-11 (4-6 BIG) and Nebraska moved to 26-13 (6-4 BIG).

Maryland's defensive abilities were on full display today, both in athleticism and skill. The Terps converted multiple clutch plays, headlined by a Kiley Goff to Sammi Woods double play that stranded a Nebraska batter at third.

Pitchers Trinity Schlotterbeck and Keira Bucher shared time in the circle to record the team's 12th shutout of the season. Schlotterbeck started the game, pitching for 3.1 innings before Bucher finished out the fourth. Schlotterbeck came back in for the fifth inning, ending with five innings pitched and five strikeouts. The freshman Bucher sealed the save and completed two total innings.

Amelia Lech put the Terps up in the first inning with an RBI double, with Sydney Lewis also delivering an RBI double for Maryland's second run. Goff finished with two hits, with Jaeda McFarland, Sydney Lewis, Michaela Jones, and Woods also slapping hits in the game.

Maryland celebrated Terp players of the past throughout the day, concluding with a post-game alumni home run derby. A sizable crowd enjoyed the festivities, capped off by a Terps win.

Breaking Down The Action

  • A pair of great defensive plays by Maryland prevented Nebraska from scoring early. Sydney Lewis made a great grab at first in the second stanza and Megan Mikami secured a shot to deep left field in the third.
  • Sydney Lewis smashed a double off the wall in the third inning to knock in Kiley Goff, upping the score to 2-0 Terps.
  • With two Huskers on, Goff and Woods pulled a brilliant double play to end the top of the fourth.
  • Campbell Kline had an impressive catch of her own in the fifth inning, arriving at the warning track in time to snag the first out. Infielder Kiley Goff was perfectly placed to make another great catch, ending the top of the stanza.
