COLLEGE PARK, MD - Maryland goes on the road to face James Madison on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 3 PM. The Terps are coming off the 3-3 draw in their home opener against Navy. The Terps got on the scoresheet for the first time all season, thanks to the efforts of Catherine DeRosa, Madison Krakower, and Katie Coyle. The game will air on ESPN+.

  • These two teams have not met since 2018, with Maryland holding the overall series lead with a record of 11-6-2.
  • The last Maryland win in the series came in 2009, with the Terps coming away with a 1-0 win. Molly Dreska put the Terps up in the 60th minute, slotting the ball to the back post to give the Terps the advantage.

Last Time Out
  • The Terrapins played their first home match of the season on Thursday, welcoming Navy to the friendly confines of Ludwig Field. The game ended with a 3-3 draw, as the Terps got on the score sheet for the first time this season. The Terrapins scored their first goal of the season, thanks to Catherine DeRosa in the 10th minute of the match. The second goal came five minutes later, with Madison Krakower slotting one around the goalkeeper to double the lead. After halftime, Navy would score three straight goals to take a 3-2 advantage. The Terps kept fighting to even the match, and it came in the 78th minute on a shot by Katie Coyle fired one to the back post to even the score and pull back the draw for the Terps.

Plenty of Firsts
  • Catherine DeRosa's goal was not only the first for the team this season, but the first for the senior since 2021. DeRosa's last goal came on October 14, 2021 against Rutgers, scoring the second goal of the match for the Terps.
  • Madison Krakower picked up her first goal of her collegiate career. The goal came five minutes after the opening goal for the Terrapins, and allowed them to go into the half with a two goal advantage.
  • Transfer defender Katie Coyle's 78th minute goal was her first as a member of the Terrapins. The goal for the junior from Middletown, NJ, was the fourth of her career.
  • A pair of freshman picked up the first assists of their college career against Navy. Peyton Bernard assisted the first goal. of the match, and the second goal was set up on a through ball by Lisa McIntyre.
  • Krakower, Bernard, and McIntyre also secured the first points of their college careers. Krakower's goal has her point total at two, while Bernard and McIntyre picked up a point each on their assists.
  • The 3-3 tie was also the highest scoring tie in program history since Maryland's 3-3 tie with Florida back on September 19, 1997.

Have a Shot Mate
  • The Terrapins put a plenty of shots on target, firing 17 shots against Navy. Of the 17 shots they took on Thursday, 11 were on target.
  • Maryland out shot Navy 17-6 on the evening. This was the first time this season that Maryland had out shot its opponent in a match. The 17 shots by Maryland was also more than it had all year. Coming into the match against Navy, Maryland had just 10 shots through its first two games.
  • Freshmen Madison Krakower and Peyton Bernard led the team on the day with five and four shots respectively. Coming into the match, the two players had a combined two shots through the first two games of the season
  • This was the most shot in a game for the Terps since their victory over George Mason during the 2022 season. The Terrapins had 17 shots in that game against George Mason and also scored three goals in the match.

Freshman Peyton Bernard, along with fellow freshman Madison Krakower, led the Terrapins in shots against Navy. Bernard had four shots in the match, which were her first four of the season.
Scouting the Dukes
  • James Madison comes into this matchup 2-1 record through its first three games in 2023. During the first week of the season, the Dukes picked up wins over Charlotte (3-2) and UNCG (3-0). On Thursday, The Dukes went on the road for the first time this season to take on Virginia Tech and suffered their first loss of the season 3-0 to the Hokies.
  • Ellie Johnson leads the Dukes with two goals from three games. Johnson also leads the Dukes in points this season with four. The Dukes have seven players all tied with three assists so far this year, with multiple players supporting the attack.
  • James Madison is led in goal by Alexandra Blom. Blom comes into the game with nine saves on the season for a save percentage of .643 and a GAA of 1.67. In 2022, Blom was named All-Sun Belt First Team while allowing only 11 goals on the season for a 0.60 GAA. Blom made 71 saves for a save percentage of 0.866, which led the Sun Belt.

Midfielder Lisa McIntyre picked up her first collegiate assists on the second goal of the game against Navy. McIntyre looks to help continue the scoring for the Terps heading into their matchup with James Madison

  • The Terrapins have been one of the best teams in the nation so far this season at getting shots on goal. The Terps have gotten 18 of the 27 shots this season on target. That total gives them a shot accuracy of 0.67. The Terps shot accuracy of 0.67 is the 15th-best in the nation and the best in the Big Ten to start the 2023 season.
Terp of the Week
  • Transfer Goalkeeper Liz Beardsley was named the first Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week on Monday, Aug. 21 for the 2023-24 athletic year.
  • Beardsley was strong in goal for the Terps through the first week of the season. Beardsley made three saves in the season opening match against American and four saves against Florida. Beardsley only allowed one goal in the season's first week, giving her a .500 GAA and a save percentage of .875.
  • Beardsley currently has a GAA of 1.33 this season and eight saves through the first three games of the 2023 season.
Liz Beardsley
Goalkeeper Liz Beardsley has been crrucial to the Maryland defense this season. She earned Terp of the Week honors after a tremendous first week in goal for the Terrapins where she allowed only one goal over two games.
