The Terrapins come into this matchup after picking up a 2-2 draw on the road against James Madison. The Terrapins took the lead early thanks to a goal by Lisa McIntyre, which was the first of her career. McIntyre scored another goal in the second half to double the lead. James Madison would get two goals later in the second half to get the draw.
 
Series History - VCU
  • Maryland and VCU have only met on one prior occasion. That meeting came in 2002, with the Terrapins coming out on top with a 2-1 win.
  • Maryland got on the scoresheet in the 2002 matchup thanks to efforts from Katie Ludwig and Audra Poulin. Freshman goalkeeper Mariel Winter made three saves in the match to help secure the win for the Terps.
Last Time Out
  • The Terrapins went back on the road to face the James Madison Dukes on Sunday coming away with a 2-2 draw. Lisa McIntyre got the Terrapins on the score sheet first with a goal in the 23rd minute. The goal was the first of McIntyre's career. The goal was assisted by Peyton Bernard which was her second assist in as many games. The goal allowed the Terrapins to go into the half with a lead. Early in the second half, McIntyre got her second goal of the match to double the lead. James Madison scored two goals in the span of two minutes to even the game. Both teams would push for a third goal, but neither team could find the decisive goal with the game ending in a 2-2 draw.
Youth Movement
  • Maryland has gotten a lot of action from its No. 11 overall recruiting class, with many of the freshmen playing key roles for the Terps in the starting 11 and off the bench.
  • Of the five goals that have been scored by the Terrapins so far this season, three have been scored by freshman. Madison Krakower scored her first collegiate goal in Maryland's match against Navy. Lisa McIntyre scored two goals against James Madison, getting both her first collegiate goals and her first collegiate brace.
  • All three of Maryland's assists have also come from freshman. Peyton Bernard has picked up an assist in consecutive games. Lisa McIntyre got an assist on Maryland's second goal in its game against Navy.
  • Kennedy Bell has played every minute in defense for the Terrapins through their first four games. Bell has been key in Maryland's back line, while also helping in build up play in the attack.
  • Krakower, Bernard, and McIntyre all lead Maryland in shots this season. Of Maryland's 42 shots through its four games this season, the three players account for 27 of those shots. Krakower leads the team with ten shots this season, followed by nine from McIntyre and eight from Bernard.
  • Isabel DiPrima has also been a key contributor for the Terps through four games. DiPrima's insertion into the starting lineup also coincides with the improvement in the offense over the last two games. Hannah Schapiro is another freshman midfielder who has gotten early playing time. Schapiro has played in all four games for the Terrapins this season in role of defensive midfielder role to assist the back line.
Transfers Play Key Role Throughout Team
  • In addition to the many freshman that have played pivotal roles within the team, many transfers continue to make their impression on this team in the early stages for the Terps.
  • Transfer goalkeeper Liz Beardsley continues to be the every game starter for the Terps in the net. Beardsley has 10 saves on the year and has had a clear impact on the performance of the defense through the first four games of the season.
  • In defense, three of their four starters in the team's back line are transfers. Katie Coyle has played the full 90 minutes in all four games for the Terps. Coyle has also been crucial in the attack for Maryland with her 78th minute goal against Navy being the goal that evened the game and helped the Terps earn the draw. Eden White has brought NCAA Championship experience to the Terrapins back line. White, a starter for Santa Clara's 2020 National Championship team, has been a stalwart along with Katie Coyle at centerback for the Terps. Caroline Koutsos has played 359 of a possible 360 minutes at left back for the Terps. The UMBC transfer made the switch to left back upon her arrival in College Park, and has taken to the position well in her first season at the position.
  • Lauren Wrigley has been a mainstay in midfield for the Terps all year. The UNC transfer has started all four games for the Terrapins. Wrigley has been great in Maryland's build up play in midfield, helping to lead to the growth in the offense over the last two games.
Scouting the Rams
  • VCU enters the matchup with a 1-2-1 record through its first four games. After dropping its season opener against Liberty, VCU picked up a 5-0 win over UNCW on August 20. That was followed by a 2-0 loss at the hands of Old Dominion and a draw against William & Mary.
  • Anna Bagley and Milica Bulatovic lead the Rams with two goals each for the Rams. Bagley is also the leader for the Rams in assists, with two so far this season. With her two goals and 2 assists, Bagley is also the leader on the team with six points this season.  
  • In goal, the Rams are led by the duo of Allison Karpovic and Stevie Mika. Karpovic has played in four games and made two starts. She has made 10 saves and is has a GAA of 0.80. Mika has played in three games and made two starts as well. Mika has two saves on the season and has a GAA of 2.00.

  • After starting the season quiet in front of goal, the Terrapins have seen a sharp increase in chances created and goals scored.
  • The Terrapins have scored five goals in their last two matches, and this comes as their shots toward goal have risen significantly..
  • In its first two games, Maryland had just 10 total shots. Since then, it had a 17 shot effort against Navy and had 15 shots against James Madison.
