Terps Fall Short In Game One Of Doubleheader, Lose 3-1 To Boston College

Box Score COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland softball lost a narrow game to Boston College, 3-1, in game one of its doubleheader on Friday at Maryland Softball Stadium. 

Maryland (7-13) received solid hitting and pitching throughout the contest but could not manufacture more than one run. The lone run came in the second inning as Michaela Jones drove home Mazie MacFarlane with a double.  

Megan Mikami and Sammi Woods each finished with two hits. Mikami stole a base in the fifth inning to tie the school record for steals with 66. She equaled Vangie Galindo's school record, set from 2009-12.

Bri Godfrey started in the circle and pitched five innings while surrendering just three runs on five hits. She also struck out three batters. Kiera Bucher pitched the remaining two innings and allowed one hit. 

Boston College advances to 12-7 on the season. Abby Dunning pitched a complete game, allowing just one run while striking out ten. 


Breaking Down The Action
  • Two runners entered scoring position for Boston College, but Bri Godfrey escaped the jam without allowing a run in the top of the first.
  • The Terps opened up scoring after Mazie MacFarlane doubled and Sammi Woods singled with a bunt. MacFarlane moved to third and Michaela Jones drove her home with a double down the infield line. Terp led 1-0 entering the third. 
  • The Eagles evened the score with an RBI triple that just went by the glove of Jaeda McFarland who made a diving attempt to make the catch. A groundout allowed the runner to score and the Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning. 
  • Boston College loaded the bases in the top of the fourth, but Godrey struck out a batter to end the inning unscathed. 
  • The Eagles loaded the bases in the fifth and a groundout scored one runner. The Terps escaped the inning without further damage but trailed 3-1.
  •  The Terps were unable to get anyone on base in the final inning and the Eagles escaped with the victory. 
Mikami Ties Stolen Base Record
  • Megan Mikami tied the school stolen bases record with one in the fifth inning, giving her 66 in her four seasons. Vangie Galindo (2009-2012) set the record with 66.
