Reefe Hits Walk-Off In Extra Innings, Terps Win 3-2 Over Boston College

Box Score COLLEGE PARK, MD – Delaney Reefe was the hero as Maryland softball defeated Boston College, 3-2, with her RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning on Friday at Maryland Softball Stadium. 
  The hit was Reefe's second of the day and the freshman notched her second career multi-hit game. She drove home Michaela Jones to end the game. 

Neither team scored for the first four innings until Maryland (8-13) claimed the first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Boston College (12-8) responded with two runs in the sixth, but Jaeda McFarland's RBI triple sent the game to extra innings. It was McFarland's 16th triple of her career to add to her program record. 
  Courtney Wyche pitched the 38th complete game of her career. She allowed seven hits and struck out 11 batters. She also received her third win of the season.  
  Jones, Sydney Lewis and Hannah Runk recorded the other hits for the Terps. Jones finished with two hits and added two runs. 
  The last walk-off win for the Terps occurred on March 10, 2023 in a 4-3 win over Fairfield.  

The game was the second of a doubleheader between the two schools. 


Breaking Down The Action
  • Boston College recorded the first hit of the game in the top of the third inning. They followed it with another but left two stranded on base. 
  • Michaela Jones singled to left field for the Terps' first hit of the game in the fifth inning. Delaney Reefe followed with a single. Megan Mikami then reached on an error to bring home the go-ahead run. 
  • Boston College tied the game in the sixth with an RBI single up the middle.
  • Jaeda McFarland tripled in the seventh inning to score Hannah Runk and send the game to extras with the score even at 2-2. 
  • Delaney Reefe walked the game off in the ninth inning with an RBI double. The Terps won 3-2. 
Terps In The Record Books
  • Jaeda McFarland hit a triple in the seventh inning to add to her school record for most in a career. She now has 16 career triples.  
  • Courtney Wyche struck out 11 batters in the game to increase her career total to 484 which is sixth all-time. She's just eight strikeouts away from passing Monica Cyphert (2001-04) for fifth all-time. 
  • Wyche is also seventh on the all-time innings pitched list. She has pitched 502.2 innings and is 16.9 innings from passing Monica Cyphert (2001-04).
  • Wyche received her 44th win of her career which ranks sixth all-time. She's five wins away from passing Kaitlyn Schmeiser (2012-15) and moving into the top five. 
  • Wyche pitched the 38th complete game of her career, which is seventh all-time. She's three away from passing Kerry Hickey (2008-11) for sixth all-time.
