Volleyball Travels To Michigan State For Sunday Matchup

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The University of Maryland volleyball team enters Week Four of Big Ten play with a trip to East Lansing for a Sunday matchup against Michigan State. First serve is set for 1 p.m. ET and will air on Big Ten Plus.

  • Duru Gökçen has had a breakout season for the Terps. The sophomore currently leads the Big Ten in blocks with 79.
  • Gökçen earned her first Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors after leading Maryland to a 3-0 weekend at the UMBC Tournament on September 8. She was also named the tournament MVP, finishing with 20 kills and 21 total blocks across three matches.
  • She posted five blocks in Friday's sweep of Old Dominion, added eight blocks and eight kills in a 3-1 win over William & Mary, and closed the weekend with nine kills and six blocks in the sweep of UMBC.

Wednesday night win
  • Maryland flipped the momentum of Wednesday's match in the second set and rode it to the Terps' first conference win over the year in four sets over Rutgers at the Schanwald Pavilion. 
  • Duru Gökçen had a massive night, collecting six blocks to claim sole possession of first place in the Big Ten in total blocks with 85 in 2025. Eva Rohrbach sits right behind her with 81 after her three-block night brought her season tally to 81. 
  • With 21 kills against Rutgers, Malual moves to fifth in the Big Ten with 244 on the season.

Sydney Bryant recorded 17 kills in two matches this past weekend.

  • Ajack Malual leads the Terps in kills per set with 3.70 after 17 matches. The senior transfer tied her career-high 21 kills against Rutgers on Wednesday.
  • Lilly Wagner continues to lead the Terps in assists in her first season, averaging 8.17 per set. The redshirt freshman has recorded eight double-doubles this season.
  • On the defensive side, Ally Williams is averaging 3.29 digs per set. She posted a career-high 22 digs against Coastal Carolina to open the season.
  • Duru Gökçen anchors the defense for the Terps with 1.29 blocks per set. The sophomore is first in the conference in blocks this season with 85.

AJ's career weekend
  • Transfer Ajack Malual had a career weekend for the Terps in North Carolina.
  • Against Davidson, she recorded a career-high 20 kills in a win, then followed it up with another career-best 21 kills against Wake Forest a few days later. Defensively, she added 16 digs and eight blocks.
  • Malual becomes the first Terp since Erika Pritchard (2019) to record 20+ kills in a match while hitting over .400.
  • She has quickly made her presence known in the Big Ten, currently ranking fifth the conference with 244 kills this season.
