Smith and Brown Named to Big Ten Wrestlers to Watch List

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Redshirt seniors Jaxon Smith (184 lbs) and Braxton Brown (133 lbs) have been named to the 2025–26 Big Ten Wrestlers to Watch List, the conference announced Friday afternoon.

Smith, a three-time NCAA qualifier and Big Ten placer, earned All-American honors in 2025 with a sixth-place finish at 184 pounds, Maryland's first All-American under head coach Alex Clemsen. The Maryland Male Medal of Honor and Student-Athlete of the Year recipient finished last season 24–10 and also captured bronze at the U23 Pan-American Championships.

Brown, a three-time NCAA qualifier at 133 pounds, went 24–6 last season and advanced to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Championships. He posted an 18–1 dual record, placed fifth at the Big Ten Championships, and earned both the John C. McHugh Coach's Award and Hudson Taylor Award.

The Terps are coming off one of their most successful seasons since joining the Big Ten, highlighted by a program-best team finish at the Big Ten Championships and a win over No. 10 Michigan.

Maryland opens its 2025–26 season this Sunday, Nov. 2, at the Southeast Open in Salem, Va.
