No. 7 Terps Stay Golden In 97-59 Win Over Wisconsin

Four Terps scored in double figures as Maryland improved to 14-0 for a second straight season.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — The No. 7 Terps were golden on Monday afternoon as they improved to 14-0 (2-0 Big Ten) with a 97-59 win over Wisconsin in their Gold Out and Golden Girls day at XFINITY Center. Four Terps scored in double figures as Maryland closed 2025 in golden style with its biggest conference win (+38 points) since 2021.

Oluchi Okananwa had 12 of her career-high 28 points in a historic opening quarter as she marked her 48th-career double-digit game. She finished with five rebounds and tied her career high in steals with six in the win over Wisconsin (9-4, 1-1 Big Ten). She hit a trio of three-pointers and shot 10-of-15 from the floor in her historic performance. 
Maryland stormed out to a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter to mark the fourth time this season the Terps have scored at least the first 10 points of a game. The Terps led 29-8 after the first quarter to mark their biggest lead after the first frame of a conference game since quarters started in 2015. 

Addi Mack contributed 15 points, 11 of which came in the second half while Yarden Garzon tallied 15 points to mark her 74th double-digit game of the season as Maryland closed out its final game of 2025.
Another 16-0 run in the opening half put the contest out of question early as Maryland built a cushion and never looked back. Saylor Poffenbarger tallied 14 points as the Terps moved to 2-0 in Big Ten play for the seventh time since joining the conference in 2014. Maryland coasted in the second half to cruise to its fourth 14-0 start in the Brenda Frese era and improve to 11-0 at home for the first time in over a decade as the Terps celebrated their Gold Out / Golden Girls game.  How It Happened:
1st Quarter:
  • Okananwa took the tipoff for a layup for the day's first points.
  • Poffenbarger and Okananwa drained early threes as Maryland stormed out to a lead. 
  • Maryland opened the game on a 14-0 run.
  • Wisconsin's first points came over five minutes into the contest.
  • Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu got on the board with a layup.
  • Okananwa reached double figures in the first quarter with a layup.
  • The Terps' scored the final 13 points of the frame and took a 29-8 lead into the second.
2nd Quarter:
  • Okananwa drained a three for the first points of the second quarter.
  • Maryland's 16-0 run stretched into the second quarter as the Terps claimed a 32-8 advantage. 
  • A Yarden Garzon layup put Maryland ahead 34-12 midway through the quarter. 
  • Garzon drained a three late in the frame.
  • Poffenbarger's second three of the game pushed Maryland past the 40-point mark.
  • Poffenbarger reached double figures in the final minute.
  • The Terps led 43-18 at halftime. 
3rd Quarter:
  • Okananwa scored a quick four points early in the quarter.
  • Mack reached double figures midway through the frame. 
  • A Garzon three put her in double-digit scoring and put Maryland up 61-33.
  • The Terps used a 13-0 run to claim a 68-33 lead. 
  • A Garzon jumper put Maryland up to 70 points. 
  • The Terps took a 73-40 lead into the final quarter.
4th Quarter:
  • Maryland went on a 9-3 run early in the quarter.
  • Okananwa set a new career high late in the game. 
  • The Terps closed out the 97-59 run to improve to 14-0.
Double-Digit Dominance:
  • Okananwa (28 points) recorded her 12th-career double-figure game and the 48th of her career. 
  • Mack (15 points) has scored 10+ points nine times in her freshman season.
  • Garzon (15 points) tallied her 10th double-digit day of the season and the 48th of her career.
  • Poffenbarger (14 points) reached double figures for the sixth time this season and the 45th time in her career.

Beating The Badgers:
  • Monday's matchup was the 15th all-time meeting between the Terps and the Badgers, with Maryland winning every previous contest. 
  • The Terps improved to a perfect 7-0 at home against Wisconsin on Monday. 
  • Maryland's biggest win over Wisconsin was an 89-40 victory in 2017.
