PHILADELPHIA – Jaxon Smith earned All-American status Friday night, becoming Maryland's first All-American since Youssif Hemida did so in 2019. Smith is just the 21st wrestler in program history to achieve All-America status.

Smith defeated No. 14 DJ Parker (Oklahoma) in the Round of 12 by a 4-2 score, thanks to a beautiful super duck at the end of the second period, clinching All-American status. Less than an hour later, Smith cruised past 12th-seeded Silas Allred of Nebraska 8-1 to lock up a top-six finish at NCAAs.

Smith also defeated No. 25 Jared McGill (Edinboro) and No. 9 Reece Heller (Pittsburgh) on the first day of the tournament before falling to top-seeded Carter Starocci (Penn State). Smith is the first wrestler under Alex Clemsen to achieve All-America status.

Smith will wrestle Minnesota's third-seeded Max McEnelly in tomorrow's consolation semifinals. He can finish as high as third-place and has a top-six finish locked up. 

As a team, the Terps have 18.5 team points, the most since 2014, and currently sit in a tie for 21st place in team rankings.
