Men's Tennis Closes Out Regular Season With 6-0 Loss To No. 16 North Carolina

COLLEGE PARK, Md.-- The University of Maryland men's tennis team, playing in its last home match of the season, lost to No. 16 North Carolina today, 6-0. The win snapped the Tar Heels' two-match losing streak. The match also marked the end of regular season play for the Terps and the Tar Heels. North Carolina swept the singles matches this afternoon, however, no doubles matches were played.

In singles action, freshman Chris Chiu (Columbia, Md.) won the first set of his three-set series with Assaf Drori. However Drori won the next two to win the match by a score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Junior Larry Chou (Rockville, Md.), faced Tripp Phillips in the No. 1 spot, and Phillips won the match by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Freshman Peter Harjes (Woodbury, N.Y.) played well in the No. 4 position, but lost to Marcio Petrone, 6-2, 6-0. Additionally, juniors Luan Nguyen (Tumun, Guam) and Dan Kenshalo (Gaithersburg, Md.) played well this afternoon. Sophomore Jon Murchison (Orchard Park, N.Y.) did not play, due to a recurring shoulder injury.

The Terps (3-11, 0-8 ACC) will travel to Atlanta, Ga. to play in the ACC Championships next week. The trip will mark the first road trip for the Terps in over a month. Maryland will face NC State in the first round of the tournament, which will begin on Thursday, April 20. The Terps faced NC State in the first round of last year's ACC Championships, NC State won the match, 6-1.
