COLLEGE PARK, Md.-- The University of Maryland men's tennis team, playing for the first time in over a week, recorded its first singles-match win over an ACC opponent in almost a year in today's 6-1 loss to Virginia. Junior Luan Nguyen (Tumun, Guam) defeated Michael Duquette in two sets by a score of 6-4, 6-4. It also marked his first career-win over an ACC foe. The last time a Terp player won a singles match against an ACC opponent was in last year's ACC Championships, when then-senior James Legat recorded a win over NC State's Deval Desai.

The Terps' played with a complete roster for the first time in two weeks, with the return of Jon Murchison (Orchard Park, N.Y.), who had suffered from a shoulder injury. Virginia swept the doubles matches, winning all three.

In singles action, freshman Chris Chiu (Columbia, Md.) continued his consistent play with a hard-fought match to Brian Vahaly, who is ranked fourth in the nation. Chiu lost by a score of 6-1, 7-5. Fellow freshman Peter Harjes (Woodbury, N.Y.) also played well, but lost to Brian Hunter, 7-5, 6-0. Junior Dan Kenshalo (Gaithersburg, Md.) and Murchison closed out the match with strong performances.

The Terps (2-8, 0-5 ACC) are in action again on Sunday, when they host their fourth consecutive ACC match, against NC State. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and will be played on the Cole Field House Tennis Courts.
