Strength & Conditioning Internship Opportunities

The University of Maryland Olympic Sports Strength and Conditioning Department offers internships for both strength & conditioning and the field of applied sports science. These internships are offered each semester (Fall, Spring, Summer), unpaid, and include a nontraditional schedule such as early morning and evening shifts. Both internships include an educational curriculum and final project/presentation.

Our hiring time frame for interns are: Spring semester hire: October to December, Fall semester hire: Mid June to August.
Strength and Conditioning Internship
Duties include assisting the strength and conditioning staff with all aspects of the athletic performance program as well as daily maintenance of weight room and facilities. Interns will gain valuable experience and learn about training philosophy, Olympic lifting modalities, and how to structure and execute a successful strength and conditioning program. 

Minimum qualifications: 
  • Strong work ethic and desire to become a strength and conditioning professional
  • Candidates should have or be working towards attaining their bachelor’s degree in a related field 
Preferred qualifications: 
  • Prior experience
  • Have at least one of the following Certifications:  CSCS, SCCC, USAW 
  • Master’s degree or enrolled in graduate program

Applied Sport Science Internship
Duties include assisting in data collection of load monitoring using a variety of performance technology platforms, generating practice reports for coaching staff, and creating athlete profiles from athletic testing data. In some cases, the opportunity to attend sport practices to manage load monitoring software and assist with programming of athlete management systems. Interns will also have the opportunity to assist the other sport science staff with other projects as needed. 

Minimum qualifications: 
  • Must be pursuing bachelor's or master's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Engineering, Data Analytics, or related field
  • Strong desire to work within the sport performance field
Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Power Bi, R, Python, Tableau
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as procedural writing and oral communication skills
  • Ability to learn other software programs
