NCAA legislation states that an athletics staff member (e.g. coach) or other representative of athletics interests shall not make contact, directly or indirectly, with a student at any NCAA Division I institution without first obtaining authorization through the notification of transfer process. Therefore, a student-athlete who wishes to speak with another school about the possibility of transferring away from the University of Maryland must:
- Speak with your coach(es) about your intention to transfer.
- Send an email to a member of the Compliance Office requesting that your name and contact information be entered into the national transfer database so other colleges/universities may have contact with you. Be sure to include your current contact information.
- Upon receipt of that email, the Compliance Office will notify the student-athlete’s head coach and will enter the student-athlete’s information into the national transfer database within two (2) business days.
The institution shall conduct the hearing and provide written results of the hearing to the student-athlete within 15 business days of receipt of the student-athlete’s written request for a hearing. The student-athlete shall be provided the opportunity to participate actively in the hearing.
