With a strong showing in early fall practice, Long is expected to take command of the all-important center position ... He started eight games last year as a sophomore, then gave way to freshman Derrick Lewis . . . Driesell said with last year's experience and vast improvement in his development over the summer and pre-season practice he is ready to give the team the much needed strong play and rebounding needed . . . Terry played in all 37 games last season, averaging 1 2 minutes a game and 2.3 points per game, hitting 51% of his shots ... He came up with 69 rebounds . . . Had his season high scoring, 10 points, and rebounding, 6, against Georgia Tech in the championship game of the Rainbow Classic . . . Following his freshman year, he was voted the award as the "Most Improved Player" ... He contributed outstanding efforts in the stretch drive of the season and in the ACC tournament, won by the Terps . . . His play gave Driesell a chance to use him to spell both Herman Veal and Len Bias ... In his first year, he had 203 playing minutes in the 27 games he played, scoring 55 points and took in 52 rebounds . . . He hit 19 of35 shots for a fine 54% ... He had 5 blocked shots and 8 steals . . . Last season, he had 7 blocks, 12 steals and 14 assists ... At Hermitage High in Richmond, he scored a school record 1 220 points and also pulled in 879 rebounds for still another school record ... He averaged 1 5 points a game and 1 2 rebounds as a senior and led his team to a 18-4 season ... He had a single game high of 38 points and a school record 27 rebounds in one game ... He had 124 assists and 299 rebounds his senior year . . . His honors included All-Metro, All-District, All-State, and AllAmerican ... He was tabbed as one of the top 25 players in the country . . . Terry played in the McDonald's Capital Classic game at Maryland's Capital Centre.
