ON JOHNSON - Senior co-captain. exceptionally quick guard. possibly the best penetrator on the team but will have to show an effective outside shot this year as well. his quickness also makes him a tremendous defensive threat. handles the ball well.
AS A JUNIOR A valuable sub off the bench, playing in 23 ballgames... averaged 2.2 points a game and nailed a season-high 11 points at Wake Forest... played a season-high 22 minutes against Mount St. Mary's. ..shot a respectable 31 percent from three-point range, a statistic not lost on the Maryland coaching staff.
AS A SOPHOMORE Started all 26 games at off guard — one of the five Terps to get the starting nod in each game... averaged 10.9 points a game — third best on the team... got off to a quick start, scoring a career-high 25 points and dishing for six assists in the second game of the season against Fairleigh Dickinson. For the season, he scored in double figures 14 times... dished off for 10 assists against Winthrop and had five or more assists in eight other games. shot 79.6 percent from the free throw line to rank No. 8 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
AS A FRESHMAN Received considerable playing time his first year, more, in fact, than any other freshman on the team. averaged 5.8 points a game. scored in double figures in nine games, with a season high 18 points coming against Johnny Dawkins and NCAA finalist Duke. hit game-winning shot to beat Stanford in double overtime in the Hawaii-Pacific Tournament, then had 16 points the next day to lead the team over Hawaii-Pacific for the championship.
