The very intense and hard working Baxter is another of Driesell's long list of standout point guards. An excellent ball handler and fine shooter, Jeff will start at guard this his senior year ... As a reserve, he has come in to get some key points for the Terps . . . Last year, he hit 2 important foul shots in the final seconds in the final 2 regular season games against North Carolina State and Virginia to insure the Terp victories ... He played in 35 of the 37 games last year ... He scored 97 points, 2.8 average, and handed out 46 assists ... He hit both field goal attempts in the NCAA Southeast Regional games against Villanova while playing 10 minutes . . . His season and career high of 14 points was scored twice, vs UMES and Towson State .
As a freshman, playing in all 30 games, Jeff scored 103 points, his season high, had 33 assists and hit .794 from the foul line . . . With the 3-point play that year, he hit on 6 of 1 5 attempts . . . He had his high scoring game against Navy with 10 and had nine against Clemson and Georgia Tech ... In his sophomore year, his high of 9 points came in the Mideast NCAA Regional game against West Virginia . . . Playing in 21 games, he averaged 7 minutes per game and had 48 points, 1 6 assists and 5 steals ... His 3-year point total is 248 points for the 86 games . . . Jeff now has played in three straight NCAA tournaments, against Tennessee-Chattanooga and Houston in 1983; against West Virginia and Houston in 1984 and last year in the Southeast Regionals vs Miami (0), Navy and Villanova . . . Came to Maryland from DCs John Carroll High where he averaged 19 points his senior year while hitting 59% of his field goals ... He was an All-Tournament selection in the Capital City Classic in Richmond, the Seagull Classic in Atlantic City, and was the MVP of the Curley Classic in Baltimore . . .
