WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Sophomore Chrissie Terrill (Plano, Tex./The Hockaday School) was the only Terp to survive in a 5-1 loss at No. 10 William & Marygiving Maryland its first defeat of the 1999 season.
Terrill, who improves her undefeated spring record to 4-0, topped Jessyca Arthur by a score of 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 5 singles position. Other previously undefeated Terps, senior Meg Griffin (Topeka, Kan./Topeka West) and freshman Courtney Perkins (Seattle Wash./Mt. Ranier) both lost on the afternoon.
For the Tribe, Carolijn van Rossum, Tari Ann Toro, Delhpine Troch and Lindsay Sullivan were victorious at the top four spots respectively. William & Mary began the season winning seven straight matches including five ranked opponents. One of those victories was an upset of No. 2 Duke on Jan 29.
The Terps fall to 3-1 on the year as the Tribe improves to 9-2 overall. Maryland will remain in Williamsburg to take on Alabama on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 11:00 a.m. at the William & Mary campus. They return to College Park on Sunday, Feb. 28, to host West Virginia at the Tennis Bubble beginning at 1:00 p.m.
